This Week in Blandelles History
December 31, 1996. The Blandelles played a New Year's Eve Party in Amarillo, Texas.
Of all of the New Year's shows we have played, this one was one of the most fun because it had the least stress. We had played at this country club for a wedding reception back in the summer, and the management hired us to play for New Year's. They added golf and two nights stay into the package, and we had fun. Fortunately, the weather was warm enough for golf, and that's not always the case there. I wish I had video of this one tee shot where I shanked the ball and drilled our OWN golf cart. The entire band nearly died from laughter.
The show itself was fun, and we would get other jobs from this gig. This show occurred during a time that we wore some cool tiger print jackets.
This was also the gig where we got stopped on the way home for speeding by the highway patrol near Clarendon and thought we were going to jail. The Blazer had expired inspection, expired registration, we had no tag on the trailer, and for some reason we were carrying a gun. The end result? Mike got a ticket for not wearing a seat belt, and the rest went down as warnings.
The highway patrolman's ticket had three lines on it to write all the warning stuff down, and he didn't have nearly enough space for it all.
Our lineup for this show was Gary Felmet, Mike McBroom, Danny McBroom, Warren McDonald, Ron Yates, and James Moats.
